The Overlook Villas

Olde Mill is very excited to announce plans for construction of its new condominium complex “the Overlook Villas”.  The new homes will overlook the green and the fairway of the newly renovated 18th hole. The exterior theme will mirror the mountain craftsman style that is evident throughout Olde Mill’s master planned mountain community. Interior appointments will include granite counters, gas fireplaces with rock accents, heated tile bathroom floors, exposed cedar post and beams, solid wood cabinets and expansive decks with gorgeous views. The new Overlook Villas will be the ultimate in convenient Blue Ridge Mountain living.  No need to take the stairs, an elevator will take you from your own private garage. Plus, you won’t need your car all of Olde Mill’s great amenities will be a short walk away.  Finally, the most exciting news —- prices start in the mid 200’s.

Hagen Giles, General Manager for Olde Mill states, “These units will have incredible features coupled with extreme value in today’s marketplace. We look forward to welcoming more families into our beautiful mountain community.”  Come see Olde Mill’s new Overlook Villas evolve and join the people who call Olde Mill home. Wine Update #1

Hello again my friends!

Today I wanted to take the time to talk about one of my favorite grape varietals, Zinfandel.  It is a great all around wine that can be paired with anything from roasted chicken to baby back ribs.  It also has a wonderful affinity for chocolate desserts!  Zinfandel’s usually have a rich fruitiness like that of blackberries.  They also have a luscious mouth feel and tend to finish with a spicy or even peppery flavor with some tannins.  Of course each label will have its own style but these characteristics seem to be consistent with this varietal.  California has really dominated this market even though it is a European grape.  And as far as California wines go, it is very affordable.  There are dozens of great wines under 30 bucks that drink like a much more expensive wine.  Here are a few you may want to check out.  Let me know what you think and be sure to try it with different types of food to see where it best suits your palate.

Rosenblum , Appelation Series 2007 , Paso Robles
Four Vines , The Sophisticate 2007 , Paso Robles
Ridge, Dry Creek Valley 2007 , Sonoma
Seghesio, Sonoma County Zinfandel 2004,  Sonoma
Layer Cake, Primitivo 2007 , Barossa Australia
Dashe, Dry Creek 2007 , Sonoma

Remember to celebrate each day because no one is promised tomorrow and what better way to do so than with a great wine, delicious food and great friends!

Hello to all my foodie friends!

This winter I am working on building a series of blogs here at www.oldemill.net to educate and entertain our members and guests from all over the globe.  I will be reviewing the trends in food and dining, new wine releases and what to pair with them, different styles of cheeses, local and international beers, and introducing local farmers and winemakers.   Of course I will also be posting some of my favorite recipes along the way as well.  I am currently in Chicago meeting with different chefs and picking their brains on the trends in the food world today.  As you know, Chicago is home to some of the most famous restaurants and chefs in the world.  Even the fast food is good in Chicago!  I hope to use the cutting edge trends here to better develop delicious offerings for our guests at our beautiful mountain resort.  2010 is going to be an exciting year for us all here at Olde Mill Golf Resort.  I hope that you will come visit us often here at our website and even more at the restaurant!

Happy New Year!
