March into the Season

Well, we are closing in on the 2013 season here at Olde Mill. This is the time of the year where we plan all the fun events that we host throughout the season. It is getting more and more challenging to find open weekends with the increased demand for our facilities. That’s a good thing. We have been blessed to have several large groups book early for this spring and summer. I am excited about the opportunity to showcase our skills to them all. It should be another upward growth year for Maples Restaurant. Of course, we will still carry on with our Wine Wednesday weekly throughout the season. We have some great ideas for new events this year. I am looking forward to working with the NonSuch Playmakers once again this season.

The Best of Times at Olde Mill Resort

What an amazing season it has been in 2012.  We have had so many great events and so many great guests.  Way too many to list them all!  Looking at this week alone, we are having a grand ol’ time.  The resort has been bustling with golfers, swimmers, tennis players, hikers, nature lovers, and diners (my favorite ones).  The early autumn weather in the middle of August is partly to blame.  We have been truly blessed by perfect weather this month.  And from the projected forcast, there is going to be more of the same sublime weather on the horizon.

Tonight we have our Wine Wednesday pairing specials.  This is one of the best menus of the year.  JC and I have been playing with different combinations of spices and flavors to come up with some mouth watering dishes.  I am really happy with the blue corn cake with ancho pepper braised turkey.  There are so many incredible flavors going on at once, and then you drag your fork through the carmelized onion jam and…….. wow!   Flavortown, as JC and I call it.  I think you will enjoy all the great dishes tonight, some simple, some complex.  Take a mid-week break with us and enjoy the fun of Wine Wednesday at Maples Restaurant.

Friday is almost here and that means Seafood Feast.  I don’t mean to boast, but there is no better buffet anywhere for great seafood, steak, salads, and desserts.  We will have grouper, halibut, salmon, shrimp, crab, prime rib, chicken, veggies, and so much more.  This is also an event that will be ending soon, believe it or not.  The season is winding down and that means only three more chances to enjoy our Seafood Feast in 2012.  Don’t hesitate or you will miss the boat, the shrimp boat that is.

Our toast to autumn will be the 2nd annual Harvestfest at Olde Mill.  We will have it on Saturday September 22nd.  Last year was a great time and this year will eclipse our already lofty expectations.  We already have four local wineries, beekeepers, farmers, and other craftsman committed to spending the day sharing there creations with our guests.  In addition to that, we have several musicians, storytellers, entertainers, and lots of games and competitions for kids and adults alike.  I think the horseshoe tournament alone should bring out many of our local ringers.  My staff and I will be preparing food like polish sausages and candy apples.  Make your plans to bring in the fall with us this season here at Olde Mill!

#WW Wine Wednesday Returns

Need a mid-week break?  I have just the thing for you.  One of our most popular nights last summer is back this week, Wine Wednesday.  This is a great value and a great way to discover new wines for your own wine racks.  There will be two, three course offerings (one red flight, one white flight) every Wednesday night.  I will be pairing the food and wine for each course to best bring out the delicious flavors of both.  It’s a win, win in my book.   We will also have discounts for wines by the bottle, should you decide to take some home for friends and family.  What better way to add some spice to a dull work week?  I hope to see you this Wednesday for these exciting dishes:

Harvestfest Success

I just wanted to thank everyone involved in out very first Harvestfest at Olde Mill.  It was a really good time.  There was so much to do and that is because of all the local support we received.  Everything from applebutter being made on site to local farmers with delicious produce.  The kids loved the clown and all the fun events like rubber ducky races and volleyball.  The sack races were classic, too.  I saw many great creations in the pumpkin painting area.  The music was absolutely perfect and we had a professional storyteller that had me hooked.  I can’t wait to see what next Harvestfest will bring.  Let’s make this the biggest event of the season next year!

Wine Wednesday and More

We have another great line up this week for Wine Wednesday.  This will be the last week of heirloom tomatoes this season so JC is making a tomato terrine to showcase their natural sweetness.  We are pairing it with the Blushing Dog rose from Chateau Morrisette.  It is a great start to a great meal.  Come out and enjoy either of our delicious menus (or both) tonight at Olde Mill Resort.

This Friday we will have our super popular Italian Night Specials in addition to both our Maples Restaurant menu and our Tavern at Olde Mill menu.  I will offer some classic dishes like shrimp scampi, lamb osso bucco, and lasagna just to name a few.  We will also be grooving to the the sounds of musician Scott Perry.  He is a house favorite.  Great bluesy sounds will keep everyone toe tapping.  Reservations are filling up quickly, so get yours in today.

I am also pleased to announce the date for our 1st annual Harvest Fest.  On October 15th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. we will have local vendors, live music, hourly events for children, wine tastings, cook out food, and more!  This is going to be a signature event for us here at Olde Mill Resort for years to come.  We hope that you will make plans to share in the fun and experience the Blue Ridge mountain lifestyle that we come  to know and love.
